Dying Hair " Down There"

by Colette Bouchez for CountryDutchess.com

Wondering if it's safe to dye hair "down there" - in your veritable "V" Zone?

The good news: It is safe to dye pubic hair, but you should know that many doctors advise that it be done by a professional and not on your own. Among the risks is burning the delicate skin around the V zone area - particularly since it is more sensitive than the skin on your scalp.

Prevention magazine's womens health advisor Mary Jane Minkin, MD says if you do try it on your own, start with a very small amount of dye in one tiny area of hair, making sure it doesn't burn or irritate skin or cause an allergic reaction.

She also advises using the most gentle coloring products you can find - and to leave bleaching or dramatic color changes to the professionals. Many salons specializing in bikini waxing also do pubic hair coloring.

If you do attempt to do it on your own - it's definitely at your own risk, and not something we would advise. That said, if you try it anyway here are a few tips that can help minimize problems.

1. Always patch test the dye first on your inner arm for at least 24 hours before coloring.

2. For the most precise application try a mascara wand as an applicator - but make sure you thoroughly wash out all traces of mascara product on it before dipping it in the hair dye.

3. Limit your coloring to pubic hair directly on top - and don't try to color anything inside your inner labia.

4 . Cover the inner skin of your genitals with a small amount of Vaseline before you start the coloring procedure - this will help minimize skin irritation from any dye that spills over. Don't put the Vaseline on the hairs your want to dye - it will keep them from absorbing color.

5. Apply the dye to the hair only and never rub it in to skin.

6. Wash off the dye in the shower - suds up with your soap and rinse very thoroughly.

Most recently, products have been developed specifically for dying pubic hair. Among the most popular is Gigi Colour Down Under...Natural Brunette. It's available in 6 natural shades including brunette.

You can also try hair colors by Aubrey such as Aubrey Organics Color Me Natural, 100% Natural Permanent Hair Color, Dark Brown, 4 oz (115 g) by ClubNatural. It also comes in a variety of colors.

Wipe Away Wrinkles and Lines

by Colette Bouchez
for CountryDutchess.com

Look younger in just five minutes? It just might be possible thanks to a brand new topical gel that's made from the same ingredients as Botox --botulinum toxin. But instead of being in a syringe, it's encapsulated into a protein and suspended in a gel - so you can just apply it like any other anti-aging cream. The trick here: the protein allows the Botox-like toxin to penetrate skin where it signals nevervesd and muscles to relax, much the way a Botox injection does.
The product, manufactured by Revance, is now in clinical trials with a goal towards FDA approval. So far, doctors report it can smooth crows feet and stop underarm sweating!

But don't expect to find the ingredient in deodorant or over-the-counter cream. Because it actuall has medical properties it will likely only be available by prescription or at a physicians office. Still....Botox without the injection ...sounds pretty good!

Concealers: How To Choose The Best One

by Colette Bouchez
for CountryDutchess.com

For the most natural looking concealer coverage, make up guru Michael Maron says don't opt for a lighter color - instead match your skin tone or go a shade or two darker. The reason? First, a lighter color concealer will bring attention to the very area you want to conceal. But more important, says Maron, if you have puffiness under the eyes ( and who among us doesn't:) then the lighter concealer will bring that puffiness forward and increase it.

If you also have that "tear trough" - you know that indentation that runs from the inside corner of the eye to the top of the cheekbone - it will look darker and deeper if you accentuate the puffiness with a light or white concealer.

By going a bit darker on the puffy area, and lighter in the "tear trough" crease, you'll have a more balanced look to the under eye area, while still concealing your dark shadows and other imperfections.

Take 5 Years Off Your Face - In 15 Seconds!

by CountryDutchess.com

Yes it's true - you can look younger in 15 seconds. The trick is in how you put on your blush!
Most make-up tips say smile and put the blush on the apples of your cheeks - which is great if you're young - and thin! But as we age the fat deposits in our cheeks shift slowly south - so the "apples" are quite a bit lower. Emphasize them with blush and it drags the face down, making you look older and saggier!

Instead: Put blush on the tops of cheekbones - and use your eye as a starting guide. Begin the color from the center of the eye and sweep your brush outward and upward towards the corner of your eye. Never go further "south" than just below the cheekbone and never bring blush all the way to your nose. Try it - you won't believe the immediate "lift" to your face!

Perfect Brow Grooming - Easy & Cheap

by Colette Bouchez
for CountryDutchess.com

For a qwik and easy brow grooming trick run an old toothbrush (or if you can swing it, a brow brush) over a bar of clear soap - such as Neutrogena glycerin bar - and then brush your brows.
The soap will hold them in place without sticky reside or that shiny, Morticia look that makes brows look fake.

More qwik brow tips: To make plucking less painful numb your brow with any tooth ache gel. Don't use ice - that is apt to give you a headache. If you can wait, don't pluck your brows right before your period - you're more sensitive to all pain during this time and it will simply hurt more. If you use self tanner on your face, try to skip the brow area - it can change the color.
